Hayley Atwell has joined the cast, playing Bess Hawkins, Jim’s mother. In the novel, her character isn’t particularly well developed, but the series is expected to expand her role and give her more depth.
Honestly, this is really exciting. Since it’s a pirate adventure series aimed at adults, there’s a strong chance it will explore darker and more mature themes. However, it’s worth noting that the original novel doesn’t contain that kind of material. Still, with Paramount+ UK and MGM+ teaming up for this adaptation, there’s plenty of potential for a bold reinterpretation.
