Tell Me Lies, starring Grace Van Patten, is ending. The news came just one hour before the finale episode of Season 3 (Episode 8) premiered. It shocked all the fans, but I’m actually glad it’s ending.
Showrunner Meaghan Oppenheimer announced on Instagram that the show, which first aired in 2022, will not continue beyond this point and will conclude with Episode 8. But why so suddenly? Why choose this timing?
She said it was something she and the writers had discussed a lot, and everyone agreed that it should end this way. However, I don’t think it was entirely her choice. Although she claims all the characters will have a perfect ending, there are still many things that need to be explained and resolved, and I don’t think the final episode manages to do all of that.
Most likely, Hulu abruptly pulled the plug on the show because of low ratings, which kept declining. Things started going wrong in Season 2, when the show held back on the sex and skin and decided to alienate half of its audience.
Although Season 3 brought back some sex scenes, it was nowhere near enough to win the audience back. The highlight of this season is, of course, Lucy, especially since she bends over four times this season, but sadly no female nudity was shown.
Story-wise, it’s even worse than Season 2, with chaotic and repetitive situations happening again and again.
At the start of every season, Lucy and Stephen get back together, and then a few episodes later they break up. It feels like the writers had no clear direction, so in that sense, it’s probably a wise decision to end it.
