The film will be based on the novel of the same name. The story centers on January Andrews, a bestselling romance author who has lost her creative spark after her father’s death and the discovery of his affair, and Augustus “Gus” Everett, a critically acclaimed literary fiction writer who can’t seem to finish anything new.
The novel isn’t PG-13; it contains graphic descriptions of sexual content throughout. If adapted faithfully by 20th Century Studios, the film could potentially receive an NC-17 rating, but the studio is unlikely to pursue that route. Instead, you can expect an R-rated film with significant adult content.
Netflix’s People We Meet on Vacation co-writer Yulin Kuang is directing the film, which is a good sign. She previously included a more explicit scene in that film, but it was later cut down in the director’s final version. This was revealed by the director, and many fans were disappointed.
Hopefully, this film won’t face similar cuts.
