In 2025, the news came that Vanessa Kirby is set to star in the Miramax film Ruins with Sebastian Stan, based on a novel which wasn’t released then. Two months later, the novel was released and I found details which made me really excited for the film.
Now, after 10 months, there is bad news.
First the Plot:
The novel follows Emma and Julian, who are a couple and have failed at marriage. To fix their relationship, they went to Greece hoping a small holiday would fix their marriage, but when Emma sees Julian dancing one night with a woman with wearing bikini, she becomes horny and tells him that she wants to see him have sex with another woman.
After that, they meet Lena, a 22-year-old girl who is overly sexual and flirty. It didn’t take long for Emma and Julian to convince her to have sex. After all the sex, the couple find out that Lena is pregnant and has an older controlling brother, Darius. At the end, Lena dies after falling from a balcony and the couple return to London.
Vanessa Kirby seems like a perfect choice for this role—sexy, hot, and she has not been afraid to have sex and show nudity whenever the plot requires it.
What about sex and nudity:
The sexual scenes and nudity are great in the novel. Emma watches Julian have sex with Lena on their first night. The novel describes their bodies and sexual positions like cowgirl, and Emma touching herself. Then Emma joins in, having a hot threesome with lots of kissing, touching breasts, thrusting, and moaning.
There are also a lot of sexy scenes in bars and clubs where the trio dance, grinding on each other.
Other than that, there are also a few sex scenes with just Emma and Julian.
The novel describes the scenes as sensual, explicit enough but not pornographic.
The Bad News:
It looks like the film has stuck in development. Miramax has not hired any director for the film and it has been more than 12 months. Some reports say they quietly shelved the film. The role of Emma still hasn’t found its actress, and there are no words from Vanessa Kirby or Sebastian Stan, who are also producers.
While officially the movie is still in the upcoming projects list of both actors, there are no words from anyone. It has been crickets since the novel officially published 7 months ago. Despite having the source material ready, there is no development.
Is there a chance that the film is still on the runway? It is possible, and recently we have seen it with Kristen Stewart’s erotic thriller vampire film Flesh of the Gods, which was announced back in 2025. There was no news, and then in December of last year we got news that the film failed to gain financing and that it was almost cancelled, but thankfully in March we heard the film is a go, with Oscar Isaac leaving and Wagner Moura replacing him.
So anything could happen with Ruins, but hopefully it is not in ruin behind the scenes. I think we all would very much like to see Vanessa Kirby having a threesome.
