Netflix just dropped the Korean series The Scandal, and I am not really surprised to see this much nudity and sex.
We all know what Netflix has become these days. They rarely give fans good sex scenes in mainstream shows catered to the US audience, but they go all out on Latin shows/movies and used to produce some really erotic movies and shows for European audiences. Lately, though, they are also going for tamed content and try to get away with as little sex and nudity as possible. Most of the time, the content they film is mostly in the dark, or there are too many cuts, which makes it hard to enjoy.
And it looks like, aside from the Latin audience, where they are trying to spread their roots fast using beautiful actresses, they have now started doing the same with Korea.
The Scandal is easily one of the best shows Netflix has produced this year. The characters, acting, cinematography, sex, and nudity are all perfect in this, but it is not a Netflix original script. They adapted the series from a French novel, which follows a rich lady striking a deal with her male cousin to seduce a widow.
Sex and nudity are not that explicit in the novel, so this series really made me hopeful for Netflix’s future projects because, for the first time in many years, Netflix actually perfectly adapted a novel. Not only that, they enhanced it and made it better by adding explicit sex scenes.
Casting Nana (former K-pop singer) in this was a perfect choice to get the attention of the Korean audience. The series is an instant hit, and people can’t stop talking about Nana’s nude scenes, which have gone viral on the internet.
There are other sex scenes as well, like the brothel scenes, which are really hot, showing the male protagonist having sex with different women. It is a sex montage in Episode 4, but every scene is long, and there aren’t many camera cuts.
The problem with Netflix!
It is all good that Netflix is going explicit with foreign shows, but they have a formula that they are once again following before ruining everything. We all know Netflix is built on explicit shows and movies. They used to produce some of the most explicit sex scenes, and then they stopped and started going mainstream, producing shows like One Piece, Avatar, and so many others targeted at younger audiences.
The same thing will slowly happen with Latin and Korean audiences. They are currently getting people to notice them, and they will slowly transition into PG-13-rated content.
Well, at least we’ll enjoy some good content for a few years before they transition. Let’s see which big Korean celebrity they cast next and get them naked.
