What to Expect From Verity, Starring Dakota Johnson & Anne Hathaway (18+)

Verity is trending on social media, and for obvious reasons. The clips in the teaser of Dakota and Anne kissing are hot for a second, and then it turns into horror. This is the first film for both actresses in a long time where they are actually going to have some decent sex and nudity.

The film is based on a book of the same name and has explicit sexual moments and nudity, which are really hot to read.

The Plot:

In the book, Lowen (played by Dakota) is a failed writer in New York who lost her mother. While going to a publisher, totally carefree, a man is struck by a truck near her, and she gets covered in blood, which terrifies her. A kind man gives her his clean shirt. At the publisher’s office, she is offered a job to finish the last three books for Verity Crawford (Anne Hathaway), who had a car accident and damaged her brain. The offer comes from her husband Jeremy, who wants Lowen to move into their mansion, live with them, and finish the books.

When Lowen moves into the mansion and searches in the office for the drafts, she finds a manuscript describing Verity’s autobiography, which is sexually explicit and has a psychological twist.

Lowen gets deep into reading the autobiography and falls for Jeremy, seeing him every day, a single father, walking shirtless in the mansion.

There are lots of twists after this, and I don’t want to reveal the ending from the book, but it is very interesting for sure.

Sex and Nudity:

The book is filled with graphic depictions of sex, with explicit words describing Jeremy’s penis, sex acts, positions, facial expressions, moaning, etc. Verity has most of the sex mentioned in the manuscript about how she met Jeremy and that they had sex for three straight days. There is also pregnant sex in the book. Verity, despite warnings from the doctor to avoid sex, seduces Jeremy and has sex with him, and Jeremy likes her pregnant body.

There are many mentions of blowjobs, where Verity’s acts are described in detail.

Female nudity is not that much in the book and is not described in detail.

Lowen also has some sex scenes, but they are not as erotic as Verity’s because she has sex to replace Verity and claim Jeremy, but Lowen makes Jeremy fall for her using multiple sexual positions, which Jeremy likes, that were mentioned in the manuscript.

So overall, there’s a good amount of sex with many positions, but not as much female nudity.

One more thing to note is that the kissing scene between Anne and Dakota isn’t mentioned in the book, and I think they added it to the movie to promote the film, and they succeeded. It is the most shared scene on social media and is going viral.

How much will the film adapt?

It looks like the movie has adapted the book very closely. No, we are not going to see Anne Hathaway giving a real blowjob, that would be too explicit, so we might just see her head going up and down as she worships Jeremy.

The film is rated for Sexual Content and “Some” Nudity, which is very accurate, since the book also doesn’t feature much nudity from any of the females. The movie will also refrain from showing good nudity. The trailer does tease Dakota dropping her gown, so a brief ass shot is possible, and maybe some nipple from Anne, but I think that’s the extent of nudity we are getting in the film.

Sex is the main focus, as the trailer teases multiple sex scenes, but nothing is going to be explicit, graphic, or long. As the director previously suggested, sex in the film is for storytelling and not for erotic purposes or fan service, just like in the book.

Anne Hathaway’s character, Verity, might have that sex montage in the apartment where she had sex for three straight days with Jeremy, but it was not teased in the trailer.

We are also getting Verity’s shower scene, in which she shows some butt. The trailer teased a shot where her nipples are hidden very carefully.

Overall, I think we are getting a solid 8/10 accurate book adaptation, and I had never expected more from this film since Amazon MGM is attached to it. This is as far as explicit as they like to go.

Release Date:

The film’s release is still far away. It will release in theaters on October 2.
