Pugh plays Cathy Ames in Netflix’s East of Eden, a young woman who becomes a prostitute, later gets married, and has children, but eventually leaves all of it behind to return to prostitution. She is taken under the wing of a brothel owner, who is later killed by Cathy so she can take over the place herself. Her sons eventually grow up and even visit her at the brothel.
All of this leads to the downfall of the families involved.
The story is good, but I am more interested in seeing whether Florence will actually do everything that is mentioned in the book. The novel features orgies, lesbian scenes, BDSM, and Incest subtext much more.
Florence Pugh has never shied away from showing her body, so I don’t think we need to worry about whether she will do revealing scenes. She seems very comfortable with her body and even shows confidence in public appearances from time to time.
The real question we should be asking is how much she is going to show and how graphic the sex scenes are going to be, because the book really does not hold back.
One thing to also note is that her character disappears for long stretches in the book and is only mentioned from time to time. The story then shifts its focus to the families, but in the trailer, she’s in a lot of scenes, which suggests that Netflix might have expanded her role.
It premieres this fall.
