Olivia Colman Makes Love with a Wooden Husband

The film premiered at Sundance and is going to be released on October 23 this year. The story follows a fisherwoman (Olivia Colman) who gets mocked by the villagers for being single and ugly, so she decides to go to a basket maker (Peter Dinklage) and asks him to make her a custom husband. The basket maker agrees and makes her a six-foot-tall mannequin (Alexander Skarsgård) out of branches and wood. She happily takes him to the local pub to show him off.

Later, somehow, her inanimate husband becomes animated, and the two fall in love, have a lot of s*x, and eventually get married. However, this relationship shakes the villagers, who see it as a danger to their customs.

Olivia Colman is not n*ked, but there is another woman whose breast milk is shown coming out of her br*asts.

S*x with Olivia is only implied through voices, the sound design of the wooden pen*s becoming erect, and the bed breaking. We see the prosthetic wooden pen*s, followed by a cut to her face as she m0ans in pleasure on top of him.

Whatever s*x is shown on-screen is comedic, clothed, and obscured to the point that we don’t see much.

The movie has a lot of potential, but sadly the director didn’t explore it fully. A full-frontal scene from Olivia would have worked well in this film.
